About Me

Hi, I’m Pia, the farmer and sole proprietor of Upper Hand Farm.

I farmed for the first time in 2013 at a small organic mixed-veg grower in the western part of Connecticut where I am originally from. The work was incredibly hard, but realistic and fulfilling. After my time there I couldn’t shake the uniquely rewarding feeling of being able to literally reap the fruits of my labor. I knew I had found work I loved. Although I did not choose to pursue a career in farming, I did stay involved in the food & agriculture space over the years (I managed a farmers’ market, production at an indoor hydroponic farm, and a small-scale grocery store), hoping one day I would return to farming.

After over a decade of patiently waiting, in 2024 I finally realized my long-held dreams of both getting back into farming and being my own boss. I started Upper Hand Farm after completing the Farm Business Planning Course with New Entry Sustainable Farming Project and am now an incubator farmer with the same program.

I am so lucky and grateful to be able to do what I love again.
